Two processes of black hole attrition are presented: a microscopic friction process by pair creation and a macroscopic friction process due to energy extraction through electromagnetic fields. It is found that the electromagnetic field of a Kerr-Newman black hole can never be larger than 2 times 10 to 12th G because of vacuum polarization. In a discharge due to vacuum polarization, both rotational and electromagnetic energy of the black hole are reduced.
