An investigation has been conducted concerning the number of faint blue images, the objects represented by these images, and the form of their distribution. In connection with this investigation, a IIIaJ photograph of a region near the south Galactic pole has been compared with a red-sensitive photograph of the same region. When viewed in a Zeiss comparator most images are similar on both plates. Among the faint objects a significant minority are noticeably blue, and a smaller minority are noticeably red.
