An analysis is presented of the modulation depth of precipitating fluxes in the field of a standing Alfven wave, in the case of modulated heating of the ionosphere. Radial fluctuations (i.e., to and away from the earth) of the geomagnetic flux tube resting on the heated region produce periodic variations of the tube volume. Meanwhile, the particles that fill the tube experience periodic compression and rarefaction, which leads to the modulation of particle fluxes precipitating into the ionosphere. The dependence of the modulation depth of these precipitating particles on the frequency of the modulated heating of the ionosphere is obtained. It is shown that the modulation depth can amount to several percent in the case of the amplitude-modulated radio-frequency heating of the ionosphere.
