Fast spinning magnetars as a source of high energy gamma-rays and neutrinos are discussed. It is shown that magnetars that are born with a short rotation period can emit potentially observable signals of gamma-rays and neutrinos in the early phase of their spin-down. Ions can be accelerated to ultra high energy inside the magnetosphere or in the relativistic wind. These relativistic ions can interact with thermal photons from the star or from the interaction region between the wind and the ejecta. The detectability of the neutrino flux by IceCube is specifically discussed.
