Results supporting the possibility of cartographically studying a new optical parameter of the moon are presented. The parameter describes the regional distribution of deviations from the known correlative relationship between the albedo and the maximum degree of polarization. Using a two-component model for the reflection of light by split silicates, the relationship between the new parameter, on the one hand, and the refractive index and structural properties of the lunar soil, on the other, is shown.
