A qualitative picture of gravitational emission during the coalescence of two black holes is calculated. It is found that a sequence of gravitational-radiation bursts is characteristic of such a process and that the collision parameters may be determined, in principle, from the ratio of the time intervals between subsequent bursts. The frequency of such events is obtained as a function of the time between subsequent bursts and as a function of the total number of bursts on the assumption that black-hole clusters serve as the sources of the gravitational radiation.
