Nuclear Matter, Other Models For Strong Interactions

Results for abnormal states in nuclear matter are reviewed and compared with π- condensates in the context of chiral invariance and the σ model. The relative importance of symmetry breaking and conserving interactions is assessed for the two problems. Vacuum self energy effects are crucial in abnormal matter calculations particularly when finite size abnormal nuclei are considered.
