The spectral and temporal characteristics of the sun's radio emission bursts were studied in the frequency range 8-12 GHz in order to investigate the dynamics of the flash component of the radiation. Elementary flash events are identified which can be accounted for in terms of a quasi-linear plasma generation mechanism. It is shown that the obervation of the 'plasma line', a narrow-band drifting-frequency component, makes it possible to predict such parameters as plasma inhomogeneity scales and plasma concentration in the radiation source region and the transverse dimensions of the energy release region.
