The nucleosynthesis of the radioactive nuclei 59Fe, 60Fe and 60Co under hydrostatic He-burning conditions is investigated in a parameterized way using a full s-process network. It is found that significant quantities of those nuclei can be produced in realistic shell He-burning conditions met in massive stars. The implications of these results for galactic γ-ray line astronomy of point and diffuse sources are evaluated semi-quantitatively. It is suggested that an "average" galactic type II supernova would give detectable γ-ray fluxes of the 59Fe line, and that a diffuse 60Fe emission line from the galactic plane should be observable with next generation instruments.
