Magellanic Clouds: Element Abundances, Stellar Atmospheres: Element Abundances

Scientific paper

The author reports on the analysis of high-resolution spectra (λ/Δλ = 2×104) of two near-mainsequence B stars of mv ≅ 14 mag with the CASPEC echelle spectrograph at the 3.6 m telescope of ESO with a signal-to-noise ratio ≥50. These stars, No. D 12 in NGC 1818 of the LMC and No. 3 in NGC 330 of the SMC, are members of blue globular cluster. Since they are not much evolved their composition is expected to resemble that of the gas. The observable elements bridge the abundance information for lighter elements accessible from H II regions and planetary nebulae on the one hand, and for the heavier elements from the cooler supergiants on the other hand.
