The astronomical centers at Mauna Kea, Hawaii and at La Palma in the
Canary Islands are examined. The formation of these centers and their
equipment are described. The establishment of observatories and some of
the world's great observatories are discussed. A list of astronomical
centers in the world beginning in 300 BC is provided.
