The Rubinowicz representation of the Kirchoff diffraction integral is used to qualitatively and quantitatively estimate the apodizing effect of the pupil contour shape. Diffraction contributions of various types of contour sections are studied with attention given to their dependence on the diffraction angle. These include the neighborhoods of stationary phase points, corner points, and reverse points.
