An analysis is given of the principal factors responsible for the large deleptonizations obtained during infall by the author's recent detailed modeling of stellar collapse. Comparisons are made with many other recent calculations, with the aim of understanding the reasons for the different deleptonizations obtained. It is found that the differences between the various models can be accounted for in detail by one of the following: (1) the particular neutrino transport algorithm used; (2) the values selected for adjustable parameters; (3) the choice of input physics, e.g., equation of state, nuclear electron capture rates, or initial precollapse model.
