Satellite and limb photometry observations of the sun yield a consistent
picture of a changing effective temperature distribution in the
photosphere. Those observations are used to show that a large change in
helioseismic splitting coefficients and mode centroid frequencies should
be observed in helioseismic data obtained in 1988.
