The precollapse phase of the evolution of globular clusters (GCs) and the influence of tidal heating on the relaxation of GCs in circular orbits is studied. It is found that GMCs are not as effective at heating GCs as the passage through the disk potential. The GC evolution at both 3 and 8 kpc is shown to be significantly affected by shock heating. Clusters with small concentrations are disrupted, while those with large concentrations are accelerated towards a gravothermal castastrophe. The time scale for evolution by both relaxation and shock heating decreases with distance from the center of the Galaxy. The relative importance of the two mechanisms during the precollapse evolution varies as a function of radius, cluster concentration, and mass.
