We present the results of applying GIRA, a two channel photometric restoration algorithm developed at ST-ECF, to U and B band VLT Test Camera observations of the core region of the globular cluster NGC6712. Our photometric restoration method aims at properly estimating the stellar flux in the observed image by separating the stellar flux component from the more extended flux contribution of the diffuse background which can be caused by an extended underlying structure or by unresolved faint stellar sources. We present color-magnitude diagrams for the core region of NGC6712 and the result of our search for cataclysmic variables in this globular cluster.
