Six new lines in the millimetre spectrum of IRC +10216 have been observed at the frequencies predicted for the 404→303, 423→322, and 422→321 transitions of 29SiC2 and 30SiC2. The predictions are based on the geometrical structure of SiC2 derived by Thaddeus et al. (1984). The result definitely confirms the identification of this species in IRC +10216. The authors find abundance ratios between the three silicon isotopes which are very close to the terrestrial elemental isotopic ratios.
