The molecular cloud associated with the compact H II region G 34.3+0.2 has been observed in the (J,K) = (3,3) inversion line transition of ammonia with 6arcsec×3arcsec resolution. A small (0.21×0.05 pc), dense (≡6×105cm-3) and warm (≡60K) molecular cloud core is found just to the NE of the H II region. The LSR velocity is ≡60 km s-1 and the line width ≡6 km s-1. The relative positions and velocities of the molecular and ionized gas suggest that the H II region is in the 'champagne phase' of its evolution.
