Star counts as a function of V magnitude in three galactic fields toward the Galactic bulge at latitudes of -14, -22, and -33 deg are found to agree with the standard Bahcall-Soneira (1980) model galaxy. It is demonstrated that the star counts can be better matched if the model spheroid effective radius is reduced from 2.7 kpc to 1200 pc at a galactocentric distance of 2.8 kpc. The relatively young stars observed may be the result of a perturbation of the Galactic bulge morphology.
