It is proven that the dynamo equation for the mean field (B) of the
spherical alpha-squared dynamo with alpha proportional to cos Theta and
constant beta have only exponentially damped solutions, if the mean
energy density (B-squared) is nonzero and finite. The origin and
interpretation of this phenomenon is reviewed.
