The Space Telescope (ST), to be launched in August 1986, initially will have six instruments that take advantage of four techniques proven successful in ground-based observatories: photography, spectroscopy, photometry, and astronomy. These instruments are: Wide Field/Planetary Camera; Faint Object Camera, High Resolution Spectrograph, Faint Object Spectrograph, High Speed Photometer, and Fine Guidance Sensors. The long-term projects (Key Projects) concentrate on the six main disciplines: Solar System, Stars and Clusters in the Milky Way, Interstellar/Intergalactic Matter Quasars and Active Galactic Nuclei, Galaxies and Clusters, and Surveys. The observation schedule also includes various short-term projects.
