Gamma-Rays: Bursts, Stars: Flare
Scientific paper
We examine the possibility that strong gamma ray flares from nearby flare stars may contribute to the faint BATSE (Burst and Transient Sources Experiment on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory) triggers. BATSE logN - logC distribution limits the fraction of events that can be due to flares and the flare luminosity function and space density. New anisotropy limits on the residual nonflare events are obtained and several concrete steps to test this hypothesis are discussed.
