All available spectroscopic data of the Beta Cephei star Sigma Sco were analyzed. The orbital period is found to be: P(orb) = 33.0114 d. Two short periods were present in the data: P1 = 0.246829 d and P2 = 0.239661 d, these two periods being variable. However, it was not possible to detect variation of the beat period that is exactly equal to one quarter of the orbital period. In view of this particular value of Pb, the absence of the wavelength dependence of the photometric amplitude for the period P2, and the dependence of amplitude and asymmetry of the light curve with orbital phase, we suggest that sigma Sco is pulsating in a single nonradial mode modulated by the orbital frequency of the binary system.
