The first identifications of intervening galaxies responsible for intermediate redshift, z of about 1, MgII absorption line systems in quasar spectra are reported. No strong evolution was found in the MgII absorbing galaxy intrinsic luminosity over the redshift interval 0.4 to 1. There is a greater variety of morphological types at z of about 1 than at about 0.4, and possibly a larger fraction of absorbers at about 1 have a strong forbidden O II emission, of greater than about 50 A. Some of the z of about 1 intervening galaxies have optical properties similar to those of high-redshift radio galaxies, although on a smaller scale. Imaging of quasar fields is illustrated in tabular form.
