WHEN Jupiter occulted the bright star β Scorpii A on May 13, 1971, a number of spectacular flashes accompanied the fading and brightening of the star as it passed behind the planet's disk and was observed through the Jovian atmosphere. Filmed observations show that the flashes at the time of the disappearance are time-symmetric with those during the reappearance.
