Many rare neutron-rich isotopes in the range 16<=Z<~34 can be
synthesized from seed nuclei exposed to explosive carbon burning. This
process, which involves no new astrophysical parameters, can solve most
of the outstanding problems in the thermonuclear synthesis of elements
in the range Z<~34.
