We present mid-infrared (N-band) images of a sample of nearby Seyfert galaxies. In all of our targets, we detect a central unresolved source, which in some cases has been identified for the first time, e.g. in NGC 4945. We also detect circumnuclear extended emission, e.g. in the Circinus galaxy along its major axis. The high spatial resolution of our data allows us to separate the MIR flux of the nuclear point sources from the extended circumnuclear starburst and compare our data with published hard (2-10 keV) X-ray fluxes. We find tight and well-separated (factor of 200 in x-ray flux) correlations between nuclear N-band flux and X-ray flux for both Seyfert and starburst nuclei which span over 3 orders of magnitude in luminosity. We demonstrate that these correlations, which even holds for the black hole candidate in M82, can be used as a new powerful classification tool for galactic nuclei, in particular using Chandra.
