Type Ia supernovae have proved a valuable tool in probing the expansion history of the universe; past results have indicated that the cosmological constant has a non-zero value, revealing that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. Further data and analysis of supernovae at a range of redshifts, observed from ground and space based telescopes, provides more stringent limits on the cosmological parameters and places limits on possible systematic effects such as from evolution and dust. The present and future data begins to address the nature of the ``dark energy'' whose existence was originally indicated by supernova observations. This research is funded by the DOE and NASA.
