A self-consistent theoretical method is used to determine the shape of a magnetic cavity arising in the solar wind under the effect of the motion of a toroidal flare-generated magnetic cloud. Under the effect of solar-wind dynamic pressure, the cloud is compressed in the front part, while a magnetic tail is formed in the rear part. When the hydrostatic pressure of the solar wind is taken into account, the study indicates that collapse of the tail can occur and that a closed magnetic cavity of nonaxisymmetric toroidal configuration can be formed.
