Recent modifications to the Jodrell Bank-Mark III radio-link interferometer are described. It is shown that at frequencies up to 1666 MHz, the ionosphere is the most important source of phase instability in the improved instrument. The effect of the residual phase fluctuations on the determination of the angular structure of compact radio sources is investigated, and preliminary measurements of the positions of six sources are reported.
