A model for bursting X-ray sources given in 1972 is elaborated and
extended. Application to the recently discovered sources 3U 1820-30 and
MXB 1730-335 shows that the former is likely to be a neutron star in a
dense interstellar cloud, while the latter source appears to be a white
dwarf in a binary system.
