Nine very-high-redshift candidates (for which the strongest apparent emission feature was found on objective-prism plates longward of 4260 A) are confirmed as luminous quasars (redshift 2.5 to 3.1), using the SIT-vidicon spectrometer on the CTIO 1.5 m telescope. Continuum and discrete-line data, including line intensities and widths and flux ratios of lines, are reported for the spectra of the quasar candidates. Attention is drawn in particular to the blueshifted emission component in the C IV line of Q0138-381 and the strong absorption lines featured by Q0324-407. The great widths of the lines and the large range of ionization states displayed are noted as puzzling. Magnitudes in excess of 18.5 are reported for the objects.
