The z=2.72 Lyman break galaxy cB58 is gravitationally lensed and, unlike most Lyman break galaxies, is therefore accessible for very detailed study. Despite the lensing amplification of a factor of ~30, a 2.5 hour SCUBA 850um observation of cB58 yielded only an upper limit of 9 mJy (3 sigma). This upper limit is at odds with the value expected from measurements of dust absorption in the rest-UV, which predict a substantially higher flux density for reasonable dust temperatures. Potential explanations for this discrepancy are considered, together with its implications for our understanding of dust in high-z galaxies.
