The H-alpha absorption line of HD 199178 shows variations, which are due to changes of emission superimposed on the absorption line profile. The contribution of the emission is greater in the blue wing and causes an asymmetry of the line profile. The presence of detectable correlation between the simultaneously observed rotational modulation of brightness and the variation of the H-alphaline profile may have connections to the relative strength of the axisymmetric and nonaxisymmetric components of the evolving spot configurations.
