Scientific paper

A radio telescope survey of 84 IRAS point sources was carried out at all four 18-cm transitions of the OH radical in order to find protoplanetary nebulae (PPN). Emission or absorption was detected from 13 sources. Of these, nine are compact H II regions or star formation regions and four are PPN. High angular resolution observations of both H II regions and PPN are needed to provide information on the geometry and dynamics of the dust and gas envelope.
