Interactions and mergers of galaxies, and the resulting starburst and AGN activity induced by these events, are now regarded as a fundamental phase of galaxy formation and evolution. Studies of nearby examples of these types of systems can serve as a link to high-redshift systems at early stages of galaxy development. We propose a IRMOS K- band spectroscopic survey of a small number of these systems, which will be used to determine the presence of AGN in the cores of the host systems, the sizes, ages, distributions, and stellar content of interaction-induced star forming sites within them, as well as the internal and orbital dynamics of the systems. Near-IR observations will be able to peer deep within the dust-enshrouded cores and star forming complexes. This information will allow us to determine the relationships between system dynamics and interaction-induced starburst and AGN activity.
