We propose to continue the CIZA project (Clusters in the Zone of Avoidance), which is mapping the distribution of galaxy clusters behind the Milky Way. Little is known regarding the large-scale matter distribution behind the Galactic plane since optically selected cluster catalogs have excluded this region of the sky due to the high extinction present at low Galactic latitudes. Our approach, which uses X-ray emission to locate cluster candidates, overcomes the problems faced by optically selected catalogs since X-rays do not suffer as severe an extinction in the plane of the Galaxy. With a statistically complete CIZA sample we can finally determine the true dynamical effects of regions such as the Great Attractor and other previously hidden large- scale structures. With a moderate amount of time in the coming semester, we can complete our optical identification and spectroscopic confirmation of the remaining cluster candidates in our final flux- limited subsample, which we show may contain some of the most dynamically interesting CIZA clusters yet discovered. The time requested here is indispensable for the completion of the CIZA survey since observations of all targets visible from Mauna Kea will be completed by the end of 2005. Note: all time awarded to this project for spectroscopic follow-up observations in 2005A were lost due to weather.
