The Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) is a high throughput, moderate resolution ultraviolet spectrograph to be installed in the Hubble Space Telescope on Servicing Mission 4, currently scheduled for early 2004. COS should be available for general use in Cycle 13. We present the instrument perfromance and operating modes, and highlight the key scientific objectives of the instrument.
