The estimates of the rate of occurrence of transient radio sources are presented from the NRAO Galactic Plane (GP) survey observations, a program to monitor the sky at 8.35 and 14.35 GHz. The GP survey series is intended to detect short lived radio sources. The transient radio sources near the galactic center are presented and estimates of the rates of transient events discussed. The galactic center region ( |b| < 3 ° , 3 ° < l < 357° ) is monitored at a number of epochs and estimates of the number of variable radio sources in this region is presented. These observations used the NRAO/NASA Green Bank Earth Station to survey the galactic center.
