We present the first observations of merging galaxies using the Wide Field Channel (WFC) of the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The deep images, made through the F475W, F606W and F814W filters, were obtained as part of the early release observations (EROs) to demonstrate the new capabilities of ACS. We describe the search and identification of candidate star clusters in the long tidal tails and spiral arms of these systems. We report preliminary results, including the magnitudes, colors, frequencies and spatial distributions of detected clusters. Comparison of these properties with other merging, as well as with single early- and late-type galaxies will also be made. This work was supported by a NASA contract and a NASA grant.
