The characteristic functions determining radiation transfer in cylindrical systems by both monochromatic radiation and spectral lines are derived. Functional forms for the scattering of monochromatic and Doppler-broadened lines with complete redistribution in a uniform medium are derived, and suitable approximations for rapid calculation identified.
