The Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) has discovered a previously unknown large population ( ~ 0.5° -2) of luminous, red, predominantly broad-line active galactic nuclei (AGN). We present Chandra observations of a well-defined subset consisting of 26 of these objects. All of the objects in the subset are x-ray faint and hard (and therefore presumably obscured), but their x-ray characteristics suggest a complex mix of absorbed and unabsorbed, scattered emission. We examine the mean x-ray spectrum of these objects. We also compare optical and x-ray spectra and the inferred intrinsic luminosity and absorption in the two wavelengths, with particular emphasis on the implication that the classification of an AGN is not valid beyond the waveband in which it was made.
