New UBV photometry and a Wilson-devinney (1971) solution are presented for the early type, double-lined binary HD 174853. This is combined with the previously published spectroscopic orbital elements to develop a complete physical model of the system, and to determine its evolutionary state through comparison with published evolutionary tracks. It is concluded that the system consists of two 3.28-solar mass stars with an average radius of 2.70 solar radii. Measured photometric indices give an average effective temperature of 12,000-13,000 K. A temperature at the lower end of this range leads to the most self-consistent model, which has an age of 1.6 x 10 exp 8 yr.
