Problems linked with the structure of shocked clouds in the narrow line region of active galactic nuclei are discussed in the particular case of iron. Composite models are used in the calculations by the SUMA code, which accounts consistently for the ionizing flux and for the shock. It is found that some interesting features, due to the presence of the shock, can explain several peculiarities of line emission spectra, as the absence of Fe I and of much higher ionization lines. On the other hand, results of calculation show that, theoretically, weak lines from the Fe(+3) ion and from other intermediate ions, should be present in the observed spectra. Variabilities on time scales of some days are anticipated even for lines emitted from the narrow line region.
