A colour-magnitude diagram is given for the galactic open cluster Ruprecht 79. Of the 161 stars measured, 77 are considered to be cluster members. The absorption-corrected distance modulus is 12.55 ± 0.16 mag, this assumes R = 3.05 and E(B-V) = 0.794 for the B stars and is referenced to a Pleiades modulus of 5.57 mag. If the Cepheid CS Vel is a cluster member then it has = -3.24 and - = 0.61.
