The Eddington mission is designed to finally answer the fundamental question: "Are there other habitable planets?" Its design allows one to detect a significant number of habitable planets orbiting other stars, and to determine how common they are, as well as to establish their key characteristics. The other key scientific goal of Eddington is to understand the structure and evolution of stars.
