Methods, developed in ground-based remote studies, for detecting high-titanium formations on the Moon that accumulate such promising resource materials as ilmenite (FeTiO3) and 3He are discussed. To gain a better understanding of the spectral properties of ilmenite-containing lunar materials, modelling of lunar mare soil samples has been carried out by mixing powdered terrestrial samples of ilmenite and basalts. A comparison of the spectral characteristics of model and lunar powdered basalt samples of high titanium content shows their close similarity. Some recommendations for the study of ilmenite-containing lunar formations from space are formulated.
