Wavelength-dependent center-to-limb variations are investigated from model photospheres of superluminous M type stars. Normal giants and supergiants with fairly compact photospheres have smooth limb-darkening curves which, however, are not always well approximated by a linear limb-darkening law. Center-to-limb variation in low-mass, high-luminosity non-Miras with spherically extended photospheres and in Miras may show a complicated behaviour in diverse filters used by observers. The interpretation of a measured monochromatic radius and its correlation to the stellar radius defining the effective temperature is not trivial. Selected observed lunar occultation and speckle interferometry radii are discussed.
