Sails lifted against gravity in current experiments can display oscillations in both altitude, velocity, temperature and spin. This is because as they rise above the microwave source, they capture less of its emission cone. We explore solutions to a simple one-dimensional model for sail motion, and discuss spinning sails with circularly polarized waves. Coupling coefficients from experiment agree qualitatively with simple theory for carbon sails, and is of the same magnitude for aluminum sails. Spin can help stabilize sails while riding beams, and through Doppler shifts can diagnose the sail velocity and spin from reflected microwaves. .
