Ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR) are protons or atomic nuclei accelerated in astrophysical environments to energies exceeding 1018 eV (1.6x106 ergs). Two long standing fundamental questions in astrophysics are: 1. What nuclear species are most prevalent in UHECR?, and 2. What are the UHECR source objects? In the next few years, data from the new Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina (the largest cosmic ray observatory ever built) will help answer these questions. In this poster session, I will present an analysis technique for determining some general properties of the UHECR sources based on how the highest energy events cluster on different angular scales. In particular, I will show how we can set limits on the number of nearby sources and the particle charge. Further investigations like this one may soon identify the source objects of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. This work has been funded in part through the National Science Foundation and the Michigan Space Grant Consortium.
